Down the road to Jerusalem
Jesus walked along
Toward a cross He was headed
A cross and a crown of thorns.

The Creator of the universe
Heading down the road all alone
He was soon to be crowned by the world
Lifted up and exalted with a crown of thorns.

Dying between heaven and earth
Who will sing His song
Who will place the crown on His head
A crown of thorns.

Jesus made the world
But He didn’t seem to belong
He who made the trees
That made the crown of thorns.

Jesus was among the masses
And to Him they all thronged
They wanted to touch His clothes
But not a crown of thorns.

Do you see Jesus
Does He look so forlorn
Does He look out of place
Wearing a crown of thorns.

He should be wearing a crown
A crown of gold should be worn
But He was crowned that day
With a crown of thorns.

He was the greatest of men
Appearing weak, He was strong
Only He could have suffered that day
And wear that crown of thorns.

Many people bow before Him
Many welcome Him into their homes
But before He was crowned King of Kings
He wore a crown of thorns.

He is the Prince of Peace
He can still the greatest storm
He can save us from our sins
He wore a crown of thorns.

Is your heart troubled
He can make it calm
He can feel and He can heal
He wore a crown of thorns.

He should have been welcomed
He should make our hearts His home
He should not have been rejected
And crowned with a crown of thorns.

Oh, how He loves us
See His outstretched arms
See His blood flow down to earth
From His crown of thorns.

He can save any of us
He can keep us from all harm
He can save to the uttermost
He wore a crown of thorns.

These thorns represent suffering
But do not be alarmed
He has tasted the cup of pain for you
He wore a crown of thorns.

He is coming back soon
Radiant will be His form
He won’t be bleeding and suffering
He won’t be wearing a crown of thorns.

You may be downhearted
You may feel you have sold the farm
You may be suffering in pain
But you haven’t worn a crown of thorns.

Jesus will reign as King of Kings
We now pray for Thy kingdom to come
He will wear a crown of gold
Not a crown of thorns.

He will be crowned as King of Kings
Received and crowned, but not by some
Will He wear a crown of glory
He wore a crown of thorns.

He will receive a kingdom
He will obtain a welcome so warm
Many will fall at His feet
Thank Him for a crown of thorns.

You may be proud of all your accomplishments
Maybe in the Hall of Fame you should belong
You may have sacrificed many things to get there
But have you worn a crown of thorns?

When you die and life has ended
Into the next world you have gone
It may seem more important then than now
A cross and a crown of thorns.

So you think you have suffered
Suffering may come in many forms
Jesus knows what you’re going through
He remembers the crown of thorns.

Suffering may be your lot in life
Is the total more than the sum
Maybe to you it does not add up
A cross and a crown of thorns?

Oh, yes, Jesus loves you
He had the answer all along
Don’t cross Jesus off your list
He wore a crown of thorns.

If you think you have suffered
There’s one thing you should learn
Jesus didn’t wear a crown of gold
Before wearing a crown of thorns.

Jesus had it on His mind
He sees what we can become
Sometimes we may have to suffer
Can we wear a crown of thorns.

Tell me what’s on your mind
What if Jesus hadn’t come
If He hadn’t carried His cross
If He hadn’t worn a crown of thorns.

Just as a mother suffers
Screaming as a baby is born
Jesus was bringing forth life
As He wore a crown of thorns.

Is your mind feeling ragged
Inside is your heart being torn
Just remember Jesus suffered too
Just remember the crown of thorns.

Talk about your colleges and universities
Some of the degrees men have earned
Put on your caps and wear them proudly
Jesus wore a crown of thorns.

Jesus paid for your salvation
Has your respect He even earned
He earned His degree in suffering
He received a crown of thorns.

Wonder what God was thinking
As we crucified His only begotten Son
Jesus must have thought you were something special
For you He wore a crown of thorns.

Above His head a sign was placed
Telling the world who was this One
But on His head another sign was given
Behold, the crown of thorns.

Jesus hung between heaven and earth
On the cross, He died alone
I Am, the King of suffering
Crowned with a crown of thorns.

So take up your cross and follow Him
Remember He is God’s Son
He carried the cross for you
And He wore a crown of thorns.

Did God love Jesus
Did God love His Only Son
Yes, but God let Him be crucified
And let Him wear a crown of thorns.

You may have suffered many things
No matter how much you may have been wronged
Jesus knows what you’re going through
He wore a crown of thorns.

The divine Carpenter made the wood
Even the tree He hung upon
The wood grew and became the material
For the crown of thorns.

Jesus hung between heaven and earth
On the cross was where He belonged
A Savior for all mankind was dying
Wearing a crown of thorns.

Have you seen someone dying
Even an enemy or maybe a loved one
Death is not always pleasant
Especially with a crown of thorns.

Jesus knows more than you think
In this world you are not alone
Life and suffering are only temporary
So are crowns of thorns.

One day suffering will be over
You are not at your permanent home
This place is only temporary
Just like a crown of thorns.

Suffering doesn’t negate God’s love
Just wait until you get home
He has something else on His mind
Than a crown of thorns.

Yes, one day suffering will be over
Just pray for that day to come
Just remember as you are thinking
Jesus wore a crown of thorns.

Jesus died and was buried
But He was never embalmed
He rose from the dead and went back to heaven
And threw away the crown of thorns.

Go to His borrowed grave
Who ever heard of a borrowed tomb
He is risen, He is not dead
He is not wearing a crown of thorns.

The grave could not hold Him
He is seated above life’s storms
He didn’t die in vain you see
But He did wear a crown of thorns.

Jesus paid the price
And paid it all alone
The payment was hung on the tree
Beneath a crown of thorns.

Jesus had a heart for you
He didn’t have a heart of stone
Jesus suffered in your place the day
He wore your crown of thorns.

He will crown us differently soon
He will do us no harm
He will give us a crown of righteousness
We won’t wear a crown of thorns.

God sent the Holy Spirit
Do you know why He’s come
God accepted the sacrifice of Jesus
The cross and the crown of thorns.

The Holy Spirit is calling us
He’s calling us to come home
Will we crown Jesus more appropriately
Than with a crown of thorns?

Jesus was put to shame the first time
For us He faced great scorn
The world rejected His Kingship
And crowned Him with a crown of thorns.

Will you reject Him also
Will you share in His scorn
Will you take up your cross daily
Can you imagine a crown of thorns?

He shared in our misery
To keep it from being prolonged
The curse was being lifted that day
Placed on a crown of thorns.

Jesus shouldn’t be crucified again
The first time seemed almost wrong
The curse was on the mind of God
Symbolized by a crown of thorns.

Jesus was crowned the first time by others
Now it’s about to be your turn
Will you crown Him King of Kings
Or with a crown of thorns?
