Crutch
by Roger Montgomery ã

He said religions okay for the weak
He directed his gaze directly at me
For a while I didn’t like his idea too much
He said religion’s okay if you need a crutch.

But after thinking about it, I think I do
Need a little help in this life, don’t you?
Sometimes I don’t need help, sometimes I need much
When I start to fall, I need a crutch.

I need a little help when someone’s laid to rest
Some hope that it’s all for the best
Some may think that I’m touched
Well, I think I am, thank you very much.

We all need help now and then
We all need help just to stand
We all need to be loved and sometimes touched
Sometimes we all need a crutch.

We are all in need of something else
We can’t always stand up to everything by ourselves
Sometimes we need a pull or sometimes a push
Sometimes we need someone else just to be a crutch.

Help may come from here or from above
We all need to know of God’s great love
God reached down and gave me a touch
When I would have fallen, He became my crutch.

So I like to thank Him now and then
For a lifetime, He has been my best Friend
Jesus has always been there for me in the clutch
And God’s Spirit has been my greatest crutch.

Sometimes life brings me to my knees
I need help to rise up and just be me
I can’t be the real me without His touch
I thank God I have a crutch.

Oil for your car helps it go
No oil in the engine, it’s apt to blow
God’s Spirit in us helps so much
We all need something, what’s your crutch?
