Dignified
by Roger Montgomery ã
I used to witness wherever I went
But lately I havent tried
I used to shout for my Jesus name
But now Im too dignified.
I used to have such heavenly joy
Of that I cannot deny
Now I no longer jump and shout
Why, it dont look dignified.
I saw so many people suffering
And I often wondered why
I should have said a word of prayer
But it might not look dignified.
I saw so many people downhearted
Not an ounce of happiness they had
But would they turn to Jesus?
No, it might not look dignified.
I noticed a poor man drinking
But I only made him mad
He felt too good to go to church
He might not look dignified.
I talked to a confounded atheist
Who seemed to think God had died
I started to ask who gave him life
But it might not sound dignified.
Then I thought about my life
Didnt people want what I had
I belonged to the best church around
You could see we were dignified.
But thinking got me to thinking
No wonder people thought God had died
Since when was the gospel ever preached
By the people who were dignified.
Oh, then I heard Jesus speaking
And it brought tears to my blinded eyes
When I was suffering on the cross
Do you think I looked dignified?
Do you love yourself or me?
Jesus told me it was time to decide
Nobody worn down from carrying a cross
Has ever looked too dignified.
When I was dying for your redemption
My heart breaking and so very sad
When I wore a crown of thorns
Did I look dignified?
I suffered the plan for your salvation
I felt the sword dig into my side
As the sun beat down on my bloody face
Did I look dignified?
Were you with me at my trial
Did you watch as I was tried
When they struck and spit in my face
Did I look dignified?
As I hung on the cross bleeding
Never asking you to be crucified
I was paying for the sins you had done
Did I look dignified?
But I am coming back very soon
So be a happy shouting bride
I will myself be shouting
Now, does that sound dignified?
So, now Ive got reason to sing and shout
Ive put away my foolish pride
Im too busy working for Jesus
Ill let the world be dignified.
