Doughnuts
by Roger Montgomery
Do you love doughnuts
Or a doughnut hole
There are many things to love
But do you love a soul?
Do you love a whole doughnut
Or just a half of a whole
Glazed or creamy
But do you love a soul?
If you don’t have a doughnut
Would it trouble you so
What troubles me
Is do you love a soul?
A doughnut or a dozen
But think about it though
What is so really so important
Is do you love a soul?
Where have the doughnuts gone
Probably down the hole
Only thing that will last forever
Is someone’s precious soul.
Will you give up a doughnut
Maybe we’ll never know
What have you given up
To save someone’s soul?
Look at your receipts
What has happened to your dough
Life of pleasure or the pleasures of life
Now do you really love a soul?
Doughnuts are sweet, sweet, sweet
But soon they have to go
But something more sweeter than life
Is someone’s precious soul.
Doughnuts are sweeter than most things in life
That’s why we love them so
Wouldn’t it be nice if someone
Had that much interest in a soul.
You don’t have to answer that question
It will be up there for all to know
Which did you spend more money on
A doughnut or a soul.
What is important, what is important
As down life’s pathway we go
We’ll talk about it on judgment day
About how much you loved a soul.
