My college professor is very smart
He explained to me where my ancestors did start
I know he's smart cause he's got a degree
He told me my ancestors were once monkeys.

Someone told me I came from a cabbage leaf
For a long time that was my belief
Now I am getting to be a real brain
Since I heard of this evolution thing.

Of course there's still things I don't know
But higher education is my goal
And I'm learning degree by degree
Don't you wish you were smart like me.

This higher education is the best of man
They teach more than some can understand
A lot of common folks just don't see
They once evolved from the monkeys.

Why, my folks still think God created man
But with no learning, how could they understand?
You have to go to school to be smart like me
I'm so much smarter than my ancestry.

I've got to write home to get more money
It costs a lot to educate brains like me
If I study hard, I may get a degree
Maybe one day too, I'll be a Ph.D.

I'm getting smarter degree by degree
Quite an accomplishment for my family
Maybe next I'll study some theology
God can learn a lot from guys like me.

They're going to have a lecture on the origin of man
I've got to learn all my brain can stand
This studying can drive you up a tree
Bet my parents will be proud of me.

You know, what this country needs
Is a guy in office with brains like me
I'd probably get voted in real easily
If they just don't check my family tree.
