Fire
by Roger Montgomery

People scream as sirens scream
The trucks are on their way
Will people die, will families cry
As people bow their heads and pray.

No time to stop and wave hello
Please get out of their way
A minute or two may not mean much to you
But it can sure make someone's day.

Some people climb the ladder of success
But these ladders are for someone else
These ladders reach to new heights
As they put others ahead of themselves.

Sometimes they go into hell
Making sure that no one is left
Sometimes they save someone's life
Sometimes they die themselves.

Ladders that reach up toward heaven
All lives are too important to shelve
Life or creed, everyone bleeds
But only a few deny themselves.

Jesus came to save the trapped
Some smart, some not too swift
God can identify with all the firemen
He saved others by denying Himself.

Cheer them on, cheer them on
As they go flying by
They are on an errand of mercy
Lives lived so others won't die.
