Going Through

a Poem by Roger Montgomery

I don't know why we go through
Many of the things in life that we do
Sometimes I think God is training
Us to be compassionate and true.

A mother screams when a baby is born
But then she loves it with a heart that’s true
Jesus suffered on a cross in pain
And gave His life for you.

How could you ever learn compassion
If everything good happened to you
But when sickness brings you down
You realize what others are going through.

We are not as fast to condemn
And maybe a little more loving too
We are made of flesh and blood
And sometimes we are weak too.

Sometimes life can seem so hopeless
And what are we to do
We can try our very best and wonder why
God doesn't seem to be coming through.

But His ways are higher than ours
The heavens are higher too
We know God is a God of love
And He always tells the truth.

He said that He would never forsake us
And that's His message to you
At the end of the journey you will know
And thank God for leading you.

Just keep on going and don't turn back
And wait for a spiritual breakthrough
Jesus is the Lord of Glory
And He is patiently waiting on you.

The clouds may be closing in
And the sky is dark instead of blue
But the sun is always shining
And soon it will shine on you.

And in the winter when the snow is falling
Just say spring will soon be in view
The flowers will soon spring to life
And the sky will always turn back to blue.

Just wait a little longer and you will see
Life or death can not separate you
From the love of God shown in Jesus Christ
And He will always bring you through.

And He will welcome you into His home
That He has built for you
And protect you from all of life's sorrows
And that is the God given truth.
