Good bye
by Roger Montgomery
We can say hello
We can teach people how to fly
We can send men to the moon
But how do we say good-bye?
I looked at the TV screen
Saw the snow start to fly
It looked almost peaceful
Not a day for saying good-bye.
It was a day of sadness
It would make grown men cry
People could only wonder
Wonder why.
Maybe I am an intruder
Pardon me if I cry
We are all affected by death
We all have to say good-bye.
Everyone is so very very important
Sometimes we don’t even know why
Sometimes we don’t even realize it
Until it’s time to say good-bye.
I wondered what the parents felt
There’s no nice way to die
But some things seem so unfair
Like no time to say good-bye.
Death is an impartial enemy
It gives no reason why
It comes like a thief and then leaves
Leaves us wondering why.
But it helps if there is hope
We know there’s a better life coming nigh
Where we can be loved forever
Where there will be no more good-byes.
Did the parents think, it can’t be true
God, don’t let my baby die
God, let her live a little longer
At least until we can say good-bye.
We didn’t have time enough to love you
We didn’t send you to school to die
You know how much we love you
We don’t want to ever say good-bye.
We have so many emotions
We change momentarily and don’t know why
We can accept life for awhile and then go to pieces
When we think of saying good-bye.
God knows we only have a short time to live
By the time we start to live, we start to die
So God will replace time with eternity
And He will do away with all our good-byes.
God will not allow sickness or war in heaven
He will wipe all tears from our eyes
He will heal our broken hearts
We will never have to say good-bye.
God will answer our questions
Then we will not have to ask why
Soon there will be no more deaths
No more time and no more good-byes.
Some words are not allowed in heaven
God sees us when we cry
There will be no more pain then
And there will be no more good-byes.
There will be no more death
No more parting to make us cry
No pain or anything that harms
Best of all, no more good-byes.
The world is filled with sorrow
I don’t see how others get by
The ones who don’t have this hope
When their loved ones say good-bye.
Death, where is thy sting
When we’re promoted above the sky
Grave, where is thy victory
We’re glad to tell you good-bye.
We’ll be where you can’t come
Our Heavenly Father won’t allow you to come nigh
He has adopted us and will love us forever
In heaven we’ll never say good-bye.
But for now, we have memories
When someone goes, we need to cry
Though we realize we will see our loved ones again
It still hurts to say good-bye.
It hurts to see them go now
Flowers we love will someday die
But we will remember their beauty
One day we will never say good-bye.
Life does not always turn out the way we planned
We live for a while and then we die
If we had known, we would have planned differently
We would have planned a better good-bye.
When you were little, we could protect you
Hug you when you cried
But now we hug your memories
Wish we didn’t have to say good-bye.
But deep within, you know all of this
As you wait to meet us there
You know we would like to hug you
Give you a better good-bye.
But, you’re gone where we can’t hug you
Some One else will wipe the tears from your eyes
Thanks for sharing such great memories
Sorry we weren’t there to say good-bye.
