Last Call
by Roger Montgomery
Last call for alcohol
The bartender said with a grin
In three minutes the bar closes
Tonight it won’t open again.
It’s three minutes until twelve
Get that last order in
One more to quench your thirst
What’s your poison, my friend?
People trying to quench their thirst
Trying to drown their sin
Trying to find out what works
Saying let the party begin.
But the party’s just about over
It will soon be a memory then
May as well get one for the road
The party’s about to end.
Before you take that final drink
Make it a good one, my friend
It may have to do a long time
If your life should suddenly end.
When a person gets drunk
He can let other demons come in
They will work to destroy his life
Lead to a life of sin.
Health and brains are being sacrificed
Minds without a recall of sin
Everything seems to be so taxing
Excesses of alcohol again.
Are our problems being resolved
Until our conclusions start to blend
Will our problems be vanquished away
Or will they appear again?
Apparitions of the spirits
Bringing chains and appearing again
We are victims of their thoughts
We are a candidate for untold sins.
We need something to help soothe us
Help us now and then
Life can be so overwhelming
So do we drink again?
If a little drink will help you
What if you go on a real bend
Will you feel any better
Or will you need to drink again?
Maybe you should change your tactics
Do you spot any kind of a trend?
Pour it down and see if it works
Do you get the same results again?
A person can die and go to hell
And then his drinking will end
But if you want to change your destination
You must be born again.
People are searching everywhere
Will there be no end?
The answers in front of their nose
If they can take it in.
Jesus Christ has to remake us
His blood cleanses from all sin
He can make your heart completely new
When you are born again.
He can forgive your past
A new life you will begin
Old things are passed away
When you are born again.
Don’t worry about your reputation
You probably have one that needs to mend
You probably don’t have one worth preserving
Until you’re born again.
You can have a high from on high
You can have a lifelong Friend
People will be glad to see you
Once you are born again.
Your kids won’t have to hide
Your dog will be glad to see you again
If you want to be changed into a new person
You must be born again.
You’ve never seen a Christian sorry
That he’s been forgiven for his sins
No one is ever hung over
With God’s Spirit living within.
You know you can’t live it
So don’t bother to try again
You must depend on God’s help
You must be born again.
A new spirit will not make you low
Praying not to be drunk again
Jesus Christ will give you life
You must be born again.
A new spirit will He put within you
It will not be from the gin
It will be from above
Received when you are born again.
It’s called the Spirit of God
It will quench your awful thirst, my friend
You can reign with your Savior
When He comes to earth again.
When Jesus Christ comes to earth
If you are born again
You can go to heaven
Can you take that in?
Jesus Christ is coming soon
He’s gathering His people in.
There will be a new life
But you must be born again.
This will be an answer to prayer
Let the party begin
Jesus is coming to earth some night
Though we may not know just when.
He will come as a thief in the night
When the world is drunk on sin
The handwriting is on the wall
You must be born again.
Some people have heeded His call
They have been born again
Some have answered their last call for alcohol
It’s their final drink, my friend.
What are they pouring into you
How have they taken you in?
If someone is destroying your life
Are you sure that they’re really your friend?
Sometimes God gives a last call
And then your life will end
He may leave you to your drinking
The door to heaven may be closed then.
You may have gotten a last call
Is alcohol going to be your end?
You may be getting a last call
Is Jesus calling you His friend?
This is not a condemnation
Some drunks have been my good friends
They have treated me as well or better
Than the ones not drinking back then.
People who drink will die
Then their drinking will end
But the Bible says to be sober
But you can be drunk on the Spirit of God O' man.
No drinks will be served in hell
That’s a sobering thought, my friend.
But Jesus is making new wine
And getting ready to serve His friends.
Jesus is getting a dinner ready
He will serve us then
The ones who have served Him
The ones who have been born again.
Be not drunk with wine
Let the Spirit of God come in
You will have the new wine
And you’ll never thirst again.
When the Spirit of God calls to you
And you welcome Him in
You won’t need alcohol
If you let Jesus be your friend.
Jesus said, Come unto me
And you will never thirst again
The water of life will quench your thirst
Would you like for your misery to end?
New wine must be put in new bottles
Your searching will now end
When you find the source of life
Then your new life will begin.
You are thirsting for something in your life
Alcohol will cause you to thirst again
God made us to be filled with His Spirit
Is that what’s missing in you, my man?
You can’t serve God the way you are
But God has a better plan
He can change you on the inside
That’s why you must be born again.
The joy of the Lord is your strength
Jesus is closer than any friend
When you find true peace and happiness
Then your search will finally end.
Jesus will return one day
Then the real party will just begin
He will serve us new wine
He’s made it for His friends.
There is a spiritual side to us
And a natural side to all men
Alcohol is for the flesh and blood
The Spirit of God is for the spiritual man.
Submit yourselves to God
Resist the devil, O' man
And he will flee from you like the Bible says
Can you drink that in, my friend?
Jesus is making His call
He may not make it again
The bartender is also making his call
Night is creeping upon all men.
It’s about three minutes until twelve
Just look at the clock’s moving hand
A choice is being made on eternity today
But this time it’s your call, my man.
