Dignified
by Roger Montgomery
I used to witness wherever I’d go
But lately I haven’t tried
I used to shout for my Jesus’ name
But now I’m too dignified.
I used to have such heavenly joy
Of that I cannot deny
Now I no longer jump and shout, oh no
Why, it don’t look dignified.
It don’t look dignified
It don’t look dignified
I used to shout for my Jesus’ name
But now I’m too dignified.
I saw so many people suffering
And I often wondered why
I should have said a word of prayer but
It might not look dignified.
Then I thought about my life
Didn’t people know that I
Belonged to the best church around
You could see we were dignified.
But thinking got me to thinking
No wonder people thought God had died
Since when was the gospel ever preached
By the people who were dignified.
You could see I was dignified
You could see I was dignified
I belonged to the best church around
You could see I was dignified.
Then I heard Jesus speaking
What He said brought tears to my eyes
When I was suffering on the cross
Do you think I looked dignified?
Were you with me at my trial
Did you watch as I was tried
When they struck me and spit in my face
Did I look dignified?
When I was dying for your redemption
I felt the sword dig into my side
And as the sun beat down on my bloody face
Did I look dignified?
Did I look dignified?
Did I look dignified?
As the sun beat down on my bloody face
Did I look dignified?
Do you love yourself or me?
Jesus told me it was time to decide
Nobody worn down from carrying their cross
Has ever looked dignified.
And I am coming back real soon
So be a happy shouting bride
I will myself be shouting
Now, does that sound dignified?
I’ve got reason to sing and shout
I’ve put away my foolish pride
I’m too busy working for Jesus
I’ll let the world be dignified.
I’ll let the world be dignified
I’ll let the world be dignified
I’m too busy working for Jesus
I don’t have time to be dignified.
