Looked Down
by Roger Montgomery ©
Jesus was crowned with a crown of thorns
He looked down at the people at His feet
The people milled around their Shepherd
But He never looked down on me.
They had to look up to see Jesus
As they performed their awful deed
I have to look up to see Jesus too
But He never looked down on me.
The world has to look up to see Jesus
But looking up they still can not see
God will look all of us up someday
And He never looked down on me.
I have been up sometimes
And sometimes I have been in need
While Jesus looked down from heaven
He never looked down on me.
God has gone to great lengths for us
Stretched out His arms on a tree
What can I give in exchange for His love
And for never looking down on me.
Will you get off your high horse
You can see so much better on your knees
Can you praise Him for all He is
And because He never looked down on me.
This world can not keep me down
Jesus has set me free
One day I’ll dine with the King of Kings
Cause He never looked down on me.
Jesus is exalted on high
In exaltation, how can it be
That one so great and mighty as He
Never looked down on me.
Jesus is coming back real soon
He’ll be riding on a white steed
So I will take a stand for Him today
Cause He never looked down on me.
I may have been poor and dismayed
God came in my hour of need
Jesus reached down and lifted me up
And He never looked down on me.
Jesus is exalted, exalted
He is no longer on a tree
He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords
And He never looked down on me.
So now you know why I serve Him
I’ll love Him through eternity
How can I repay such an act of grace
Cause He never looked down on me.
It would be a sin to even try
I guess I’ll let it be
God knew me since I was born
Yet He never looked down on me.
I sure hope you know Him too
Then you will wonder with glee
You can be astounded at God’s great grace
Cause He never looked down on me.
He can be the best friend you have
Wouldn’t you like Him to be
Wouldn’t you like to say as I do
He never looked down on me.
No, He never looked down on me.
