The Cross
by Roger Montgomery
I’ve just seen the cross
Tell me, what does it mean?
Tell me about this cross
The man on it I’ve seen.
The torment on His face
Was it just His own?
It seemed to be for someone else
Like someone He had known.
The sign over His head said,
“Here is The King”
But He doesn’t look to me
Like any I have ever seen.
The people on the ground
Seemed to go almost unseen
He’s asking for their forgiveness
Such kindness for the King.
Now He said, “It is finished”
I wonder what does this mean?
Don’t these words sound unusual
For the one they call, “The King”?
The clouds are getting darker
For this bloody scene
It seems the Heavens are crying
For the One they call, ‘The King”.
But through the clouds I see a light
Like it’s mighty shining beam
Is shining down upon the world
For the One they call, “The King”
The sign over His head said,
“Here is The King”
He doesn’t look, look to me
Like any I have ever seen.
The people on the ground
Seem to go almost unseen
He’s asking for their forgiveness
Such kindness for the King.
For the King.
