The Painting
by Roger Montgomery

My son gave me a painting he had made
To some it may look crude
I would not trade it for a Rembrandt
Even if someone wanted me to.

What is it that makes it so special
Oh, how I wish I knew
Maybe it took so much thought
No, I don’t think that’s true.

It’s not the frame, there’s none
Not made on canvas, it’s true
It was made in art class
Grade school and no training too.

But it still looked cute and simple
And made by my son I knew
It was an act of love that made it
And made it precious too.

Maybe you don’t want it
But it was not made for you
It wasn’t made by your son
Or you would want it too.

Maybe you may wonder
Why God would ever want you
Maybe sometimes we think like God
Maybe God is a Father too.
