LEVEL
by Roger Montgomery ©
Level with me if you will
Does cold hearted people make you shiver
Have you ever wondered to yourself
Is there anyone on the level.
Evil people seem to be getting worse
People want to take instead of give
Why can’t we all just learn to get along
Just learn to live and let live.
Keep up the charade as long as you can
Don’t let anyone think you’re weak
Keep your heart locked up inside
And hope no one takes a peek.
Pool your resources and wonder why
You feel like a chicken in a coop
Or go outside and walk around
As life seems to make one giant loop.
Spot the ones who are different than you
Or the ones who think they’re not
Some will think you are lowly indeed
While others will think you’re the tops.
Deer are running everywhere
Multiplying like a seed
Is life guiding you all around
Or are you shaking like a reed?
Strap yourself in your car seat
And hope it finally starts
Will it outlast the warranty
Or can you get new parts?
Stun you family with your brilliance
Hit them where it hurts
You family will be so proud of you
If you don’t drive them nuts.
Radar up ahead, don’t you know
It’s there for your good
Technology is making such great strides
Like bringing us first class radar.
Step out in the world and take a look
And don’t ever call it quits
Do you own your cat and dog
Or are you owned by your pets?
Stressed may be a way of life
Though sometimes it causes many hurts
Eat your chocolate with a diet drink
The answer may be found in desserts.
Guns are being outlawed today
But being defenseless is the rub
While some are terrified by their sight
Sometimes they make others feel snug.
Civic may be the way to go
Will this cause someone’s life to pivot
We could learn to live by ourselves
Except that wouldn’t appear too civic.
Was your circle of friends the way to go
Or like running into a round wall
We end up where we started from
Beats all I ever saw.
PS: This poem is a like a puzzle. Can you solve the mystery?
