Searching
by Roger Montgomery ã

In my search for searching I am searching
Trying to understand what makes me I
I have learned a lot from life
Why not give man a try.

I take a breath and make my move
I’ll hurl into man’s knowledge, I sigh
Can I learn even though I’m an intruder
Can I grasp the meaning of why?

What does man think, know, understand
Or are they just like I
Do they understand everything they know
Do they hold the answers nigh?

A book of one and a course of none
They teach us how to live and die
Is there dignity in life, much less in death
Can we lie in truth or let the truth lie.

Sometimes I feel that truth is scarce
Reality sets in about the time we die
I still want to learn but what is worse
I know I couldn’t stop even if I tried.

Yes, I have learned and often spurned
The knowledge that within me lies
And I think through the years, I don’t really care
But the Truth can not be denied.

For after I have learned what I already know
And the memories are buried up inside
I will put it to rest like last year’s test
And the dreams will say to me “Aye”.

It’s part of a puzzle I try to unravel
Man, the answer in us abides
Are you a part of me and I of thee
What are the rest of us trying to hide?

You’re part of the truth that is broken loose
In the teardrops our laughter hides
One parts got what the other’s not
And the other often wonders why.

But some day we’ll know after we go
On living the answers we’ve tried
And you and me and the rest will see
Truth will not be measured by either you or I.
